Default [Dixonary] Round 2876 (ABOMASUM) Results

Fellow players,

The correct definition of ABACULUS was #5, the fourth stomach of a ruminant. It received two votes, from Dave Cunningham and Shani Naylor.

I considered withdrawing this word and coming up with another when John Barrs and Dan Widdis told me they knew it during the definition submission period. In retrospect I should have, because Mike Shefler recognized it in the definition list, but what was done was done. The deal seems to have played out reasonably well otherwise, with nine voters (all the non-DQs who submitted definitions plus Ryan McGill) despite that.

The next dealer is Shani N., whose "something monstrous or portentious ..." (def. #10) received four votes, twice as many as its nearest competitors. She also voted for the correct definition, for a total of six points. Dave Cunningham is the traditional "winnah" with four points. Shani would have won the next deal even without her correct vote, as two of Dave's four were for a correct vote and Shani had four points of the natural, organic, and gluten-free variety.

Full results:

1. a procurator. From Stevens, G. who voted 6, 8. Voted for by: Bourne, T. Score: 1.

2. an oddity or nonesuch. From Cunningham, D. who voted *5*, 10. Voted for by: Abell, T.; Lodge, T. Score: 4.

3. a male boa constrictor. From Barrs, J. who did not vote (DQ). Voted for by: None. Score: 0.

4. a hackneyed phrase or saying. From Abell, T. who voted 2, 10. Voted for by: Naylor, S.; Hale, K. Score: 2.

5. the fourth stomach of a ruminant. From Dictionary which could not vote. Voted for by: Cunningham, D.; Naylor, S. Score: D2.

6. a niche for a relic in a church or chapel. From Lodge, T. who voted 2, 10. Voted for by: Stevens, G.; Madnick, J. Score: 2.

7. a beam supporting the front of a building. From Madnick, J. who voted 6, 8. Voted for by: McGill, R. Score: 1.

8. an animal pen enclosed by a hedge of thorn bushes. From Bourne, T. who voted 1, 10. Voted for by: Stevens, G.; Madnick, J. Score: 2.

9. a type of melon found in New Guinea and northern Australia. From Shefler, M. who did not vote (DQ). Voted for by: None. Score: 0.

10. something monstrous or portentous; a shocking sight, sorry spectacle, disgraceful thing. From Naylor, S. who voted 4, *5*. Voted for by: Cunningham, D.; Abell, T.; Lodge, T.; Bourne, T. Score: 6.

11. a room near the kitchen where meals are staged and dressed before they are taken to the dining room. From Hale, K. who voted 4, 11. Voted for by: Hale, K. Score: 0.

12. [Min.] A substance, somewhat resembling wax, found in connection with certain deposits of rock salt and coal. From Widdis, D. who did not vote (DQ). Voted for by: McGill, R. Score: 1.

No definition from McGill, R. who voted 7, 12. Voted for by: N/A. Score: 0.

It's all yours, Shani!

Efrem

Sorry about that. Obviously, I edited a previous results email and missed this word; mea culpa. I think the results are correct, though.

By way of a penitence offering, here's where to find the abomasum if you ever need to do that:
