Default [Dixonary] Round 3014 CASCHROM results

Folks,

Asyntedon is "a foot-plough or crooked spade used for turning stony ground," definition 11. It got two votes, from John Barrs and Dave Cunningham. They're used mostly in Scotland, but the word is not specifically Scots. It comes from the Gaelic 'cas," a foot or handle, and "crom," bent, and is sometimes written in two parts. This is a farmer using a caschrom:

The next deal goes to Guerri Stevens, whose pair of panel (def. #10) earned her a natural 5. Runner-up and traditional "winnah" is John Barrs with #13 (a pattern of blocks in a tower) who also had 5 points, thanks to a late surge, but two of his points came from a vote for the correct definition. He was followed by two players with 3 points each.

Full results:

1. a sanctuary. From Carson, C. who voted 7, 13. Voted for by: Naylor, S.; Madnick, J.; Stevens, G. Score: 3.

2. [Ger.] CD-ROM. From Cunningham, D. who voted 7, *11*. Voted for by: None.. Score: 2.

3. black and white. From Embler, D. who voted 10, 13. Voted for by: Shefler, M. Score: 1.

4. [Fr.] a paintbox. From McGill, R. who did not vote. Voted for by: Widdis, D. Score: 1.

5. a closet with sliding doors. From Abell, T. who did not vote. Voted for by: Stevens, G.; Bourne, T. Score: 2.

6. an imaginary mountain flower. From Naylor, S. who voted 1, 12. Voted for by: None. Score: 0.

7. soft earth in a crack or mining fissure. From Madnick, J. who voted 1, 14. Voted for by: Carson, C.; Cunningham, D.; Lodge, T. Score: 3.

8. any coelacanth fish of the genus _Caschcromeria_. From Lodge, T. who voted 7, 13. Voted for by: None. Score: 0.

9. [Bot.] The narrow, hollow part of a gamopetalous corolla. From Widdis, D.. who voted 4, 10. Voted for by: None. Score: 0.

10. a pair of related pictures or carvings on two hinged panels. From Stevens, G. who voted 1, 5. Voted for by: Embler, D.; Widdis, D.; Shefler, M.; Barrs, J.; Bourne, T. Score: 5.

11. a foot-plough or crooked spade used for turning stony ground. From Dictionary which could not vote. Voted for by: Cunningham, D.; Barrs, J. Score: D2.

12. a receptacle for holding the sacred texts of Hinduism (the Vedas). From Shefler, M. who voted 3, 10. Voted for by: Naylor, S. Score: 1.

13. the pattern formed by using different colored blocks to build a round tower; often a clock tower. From Barrs, J. who voted 10, *11*. Voted for by: Carson, C.; Embler, D.; Lodge, T. Score: 5.

14. a slow read-only memory made to appear fast through the use of caching at the micro-program level. From Bourne, T. who voted 5, 10. Voted for by: Madnick, J. Score: 1.

For those who prefer tables results follow in that form, in descending order of scores without regard for tie-breaking precedence rules.

I don't think Guerri is going to deal; she had problems last time.Â* And it's been more than 24 hours, so it looks like it's up to John.

I breathed a sigh of relief when the results were published for it will
be difficult for me to deal this round. I am flying to USA in two days
and apart from anything else, it usually takes me a day or more to get
connected.

So, please not me this time

Perhaps Tony Abell since he escaped that tie with Ephrem.

Well then Judy Madnick would be next in line according to the rolling scores.

Default Re: [Dixonary] Round 3014 CASCHROM results

The other option is that Chris C; and Judy M. were tied in the scores behind Guerri and John, with 3 natural points each. Chris is a point ahead of Judy in the rolling scores, so he'd win that tie-breaker - aside from her having dealt more recently and having also already dealt twice since Round 3000.

I await the judgment of more experienced players than I am, or perhaps what Tony and/or Chris have to say on this.

No. Can someone tell me how to address a message to the entire group,
and I will explain. Or failing that, send a message to me, and I'll
reply and you can publish the reply. Or maybe you will not want to. I am
hoping that at some time I'll be back.

Guerri,

Sending it to dixonary (AT) googlegroups (DOT) com should work.

And copy me. If I get it from the group, all is well. If I don't, I'll assume something went wrong with that part and will publish it to everyone.

Default [Dixonary] Round 3015: Announcing KLOOF

The word for round 3015 shall be KLOOF.

Can someone look up the words already played and let me know if KLOOF is
among them.

It's been so long since I've dealt that I no longer know how, but
because it's been so long, I hate to refuse..

So I will stumble along.

Send your fake definitions to me: guerri (AT) guerristevens (DOT) com.

Deadline for definitions is, well, September 22Â* at 1 p.m. eastern
U.S.time Is that long enough?

I just looked at the calendar and daylight saving time doesn't end until
November 3rd. Why bother for crying out loud.
