Default [Dixonary] Results of Round 2959, MODILLION

Folks,

The correct definition of "modillion" is #5, an ornate corbel underneath a cornice. Here's what one looks like:

The deal started out poorly (from my selfish point of view) with all four of the first voters choosing the correct definition. Things settled down a bit after that so it ended with a D6, nothing to be proud of but it could have been worse.

Among humans, four players had four points: Bourne, Madnick, Shepherdson and Widdis. Of those, Tim Bourne's and Nancy Shepherdson's scores were both natural, eliminating the other two from contention for the next deal. Since Tim is ahead of Nancy in the rolling scores, he has that honor. The other three can bask in the glory of being the traditional "winnahs."

Full results:

1. a follower of fashion. From Lodge, T. who voted 2, 4. Voted for by: McGill, R. Score: 1.

2. a low or worthless poet. From Widdis, D. who voted *5*, 12. Voted for by: Lodge, T.; Shefler, M. Score: 4.

3. a wobble in a rotating body. From Carson, C. who did not vote. Voted for by: McGill, R. Score: 1.

4. something depressingly commonplace. From Abell, T. who voted *5*, 6. Voted for by: Lodge, T. Score: 1.

5. An ornate corbel underneath a cornice. From Dictionary which could not vote. Voted for by: Widdis, D.; Barrs, J.; Cunningham, D.; Naylor, S.; Madnick, J.; Embler, D. Score: D6.

6. a badge or other adornment for a motor vehicle. From Bourne, T. who voted 8, 12. Voted for by: Abell, T.; Naylor, S.; Shepherdson, N.; Embler, D. Score: 4.

7. a rubber knob on the end of a cane to prevent slippage. From Shefler, M. who voted 2, 11. Voted for by: Stevens, G. Score: 1.

8. [Math.] the remainder when any number is divided by a million. From Barrs, J. who voted *5*, 11. Voted for by: Bourne, T. Score: 3.

9. an oil paint containing lead acetate in paste form. (TM _E. I. duPont_) From Cunningham, D. who voted *5*, 12. Voted for by: Shepherdson, N. Score: 3.

10. an invented fantasy world with its own geography, language and history. From Naylor, S. who voted *5*, 6. Voted for by: Stevens, G. Score: 3.

11. a vertical member, as of stone or wood, dividing a window or other opening. From Madnick, J. who voted *5*, 12. Voted for by: Shefler, M.; Barrs, J. Score: 4.

12. a type of filigreed ornamental architectural decoration most often found on balconies and rooflines. From Shepherdson, N. who voted 6, 9. Voted for by: Widdis, D.; Bourne, T.; Cunningham, D.; Madnick, J. Score: 4.

13. the result of atoms of light elements being squeezed under enough pressure for their nuclei to undergo fusion. From Embler, D. who voted *5*, 6. Voted for by: None. Score: 2.

No definition from Stevens, G. who voted 7, 10. Voted for by: N/A. Score: 0..

No definition from McGill, R. who voted 1, 3. Voted for by: N/A. Score: 0.

For those who prefer tables the results follow in that form, in descending order of scores without regard for tie-breaking rules:

It's all yours, Tim!

Tim B said in his vote

/And I'll take this opportunity to say that I'll be away on holiday for
roughly a month from this Wednesday, with nothing bigger than a tablet,
so my participation will be very erratic - no deals please!/

So whatever the rules are for the next person - looks like Nancy to me

Sorry, folks!

Off to the airport tonight, for a flight to Seattle and on to Kona tomorrow. Definitely not a good
time to deal! I expect I'll be able to find wifi occasionally, but not every day.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

Tim: Wave at me as you pass through Seattle! And enjoy Kona!

Efrem: You suffered the inglorious fate of two definitions similar
enough to look like maybe they could have been combined if one weren't
real.

I considered combining them, but decided they weren’t close enough.

Just found this and yes, in a couple of hours, if you are willing to wait.
See the new topic I just posted.
