Default [Dixonary] OT: Driven Crazy by New Software

When I start Firefox I get "recommended by Pocket" and various other
junk. My guess is that happens because Firefox is "free". I wouldn't
mind, but it is intrusive.

Also does anyone have advice for dealing with, what is to me, culture
shock. For example you received this message because you subscribed....
I don't recall having seen that before, but maybe I just didn't notice it.

Guerri:

From within Firefox, go to aboutreferences#home (in the URL bar).
Here you can specify what page(s) to open when you start Firefox and
what page to load when you create a new tab.
I have mine set to open Google when it opens and to open new tabs with a
blank page.

Firefox is free but as far as I know not drive by advertisement revenue
as some other free products. You do not need to start with an ad page.

Cheers,
Hugo

Guerri,

I've been getting "You received his message ..." at the end of Dixonary messages since I started receiving them a few years ago. One of them is quoted with your message below. Another will probably be attached to mine when you get it.

I have been out of orbit for more than a month. My wife had a gynae op-no lifting more than a couple of pounds for 8 weeks and me looking after her. Two days later I was ambulances into hospital after a fall and incapable of standing up . Now after three weeks in hospital (where they found no answers) I have been home for two weeks and can walk across a room without a frame. I am not going to join in the game yet but I am feeling stronger day on day.
The hospital didn't really provide any answers but they think that decades o
f infarcts - they were insistent that there were no strokes, but these events have left me with arthritis all up my spine so how messages were transmitted became a lottery and something keyed a collapse of almost everything, I could not swallow, have difficulty with breathing etc. All hopefully improving.
See you all soon, JohnnyB

I can't figure out how to reply to all, under the new software. Although having said that the "to" does seem to address the group so never mind..
OK, so what add-on might I have and how would I get rid of it? I sure don't remember getting any kind of add on.
P.S. Sorry to sound so flaky. I think I really am flaky, though. I fell about a week ago, hitting my head. My husband was there, and insisted on calling 911 (the generic emeergency number here in the U.S). I spent a little time in the hospital, being tested for stroke, heart attack, et al. Nothing was found, but they thought I was dehydrated. The upshot is this, and some of you will also have have heard the immediately following words: "as we get older... our bodies sometimes fail to recognize thirst.
I can't figure out the font setting. All I want is Courier in a different size and I never had to think about that before.

I don't get that with Firefox. I wonder if you have an add-on that's doing that. Pocket appears to be a new Firefox feature that lets you save web pages for viewing off line.

Also does anyone have advice for dealing with, what is to me, culture shock.. For example you received this message because you subscribed.... I don't recall having seen that before, but maybe I just didn't notice it.

I think that comes from whatever it is you've subscribed to, in this case our Google group, and not from Firefox. It may have been added because of concerns about unwanted messages.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.
