Default [Dixonary] Round 2931 (ANLAGE) Results

Folks,

The deal bounces back to Ryan McGill with his grommet collar, definition #12. It received six votes. John Barrs came in second, the traditional "winnah," with five points including two for finding the rose among thorns.

That rose among thorns was definition #12, "the rudimentary basis of a particular organ or other part, especially in an embryo." It's not a word that most of us use in ordinary conversation, but how many Dixonary words are? An example sentence I found online is "The first morphological anlage of the appendix is observed in human embryos from 28 to 37 days of age in the form of an elevation covered with coelomic epithelium, constituted by the mesenchyme which surrounds the anlage of the caecum." Anyone who understands that can explain it to the rest of us. Or perhaps not. Not might be better. I'm not sure I want to know what a coelomic epithelium is.
