Default [Dixonary] Round 3088 FANA voting time

Folks,

Thirteen definitions of FANA follow: no longer a paucity, and if not a plethora, at least a sufficiency. One is correct. (Really. I double-checked to make sure the real definition is in here.) The rest are your inventions. They have been edited slightly for format consistency and are in ascending order of character count. That might not correspond to visual length in your email display font.

Please vote for two by Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list. If you realize on seeing the definitions that you know what FANA means, let me know me by private email to emallach (AT) verizon (DOT) net <mailto:emallach (AT) verizon (DOT) net>.

1. power; authority.

2. silence; reticence.

3. iron-rich alluvium.

4. the opposite of fauna.

5. [Ir.] a traveling poet or bard.

6. (or phana) a Greek wayside shrine.

7. the embodiment of the soul in art or music.

8. a dry alpine grassland of the Andean highlands.

9. in Celtic mythology, a malevolent woodland spirit.

10. [now obs] a small Indian coin worth 1/4 anna or 3 pies

11. [Islam] the mystical annihilation of self as a step toward union with God.

12. the residue of tea leaves left in a cup after drinking, specifically when used by fortune tellers for divination.

13. A grotesque blunder in language; an apparent congruity, but real incongruity, of ideas, contained in a form of expression.

Votes are due in a few minutes under 48 hours from now: Friday, July 17, at 9 am US EDT. According to timeanddate.com <http://timeanddate.com/>, that is:

and other times in other places. Please check any time conversion that applies to you. That site is good, but nobody's perfect.

New players are welcome to vote, as are old friends who didn't submit a definition. The only requirement is that you not know what the word means. Full rules at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules <http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules> .

Vote away!

Efrem
