Default [Dixonary] Round 2886 PUTATORY Results

Several people didn't vote in this round, because - I suspect - they
thought they might be DQ, even though only Mike Shefler declared himself to
be. Actually, Keith Hale also told me he thought he was DQ, but the def he
quoted wasn't the right one - PUTATORY does sound like a word you should
know the meaning of! The real def was No 7, "of or relating to the pruning
of trees". Johnny Barrs submitted a def so close to that that I combined
it with the real one.

The new dealer is Shani Naylor whose def, 7, four players "accepted or
believed as true, regardless of fact" - very appropriate! Dan Widdis was
the Real Winner, with an unnatural 3.

Take it away, Shani!

Default [Dixonary] Round 2886 PUTATORY Results

I can't make heads or tails out of the scoring on this. How did I end up
with a point?

This is my first attempt to do this via email, so I hope it works:

Johnny, you made me laugh good with that one.

Default [Dixonary] Round 2886 PUTATORY Results

Ryan

Thanks for pointing out my error. You got a point because Dan Widdis voted
for your def. Unfortuately, my spreadsheet couldn't handle the fact that
I'd combined Johnny's def with the real one, so all the "Voted for by:"
lines after def number 7 are wrong. The scores are correct despite that.

Here's a corrected version:

*** PUTATORY ***

1. vindictive.
Submitter: Efrem Mallach Votes: 4 & 10 Score: 1 + 0 = 1
Voted for by: Shani Naylor

2. unfullfilled.
Submitter: Guerri Stevens Votes: 10 & 11 Score: 1 + 0 = 1
Voted for by: Tony Abell

3. the heir to a regency.
Submitter: Tony Abell Votes: 2 & 7 Score: 0 + *2* = 2
Voted for by: Nobody

4. [Obs.] alleged; implied.
Submitter: Mike Shefler Votes: - DQ - Score: 2 + 0 = 2
Voted for by: Efrem Mallach, Shani Naylor

5. pertaining to male descendants.
Submitter: Dan Widdis Votes: 7 & 12 Score: 1 + *2* = 3
Voted for by: Nancy Shepherdson

6. something temporary; a place-holder.
Submitter: Tim Bourne Votes: 9 & 10 Score: 1 + 0 = 1
Voted for by: Judy Madnick

7. of or relating to the pruning of trees.
Submitter: OED Votes: - & - Score: 2 + 0 = 2
Submitter: Johnny Barrs Votes: 0 & 0 Score: 2 + 0 = 2
Voted for by: Tony Abell, Dan Widdis

8. a quiet place for study or introspection.
Submitter: Keith Hale Votes: 0 & 0 Score: 0 + 0 = 0
Voted for by: Nobody

9. inconsequential; inoperative; futile; trifling.
Submitter: Judy Madnick Votes: 6 & 11 Score: 1 + 0 = 1
Voted for by: Tim Bourne

10. accepted or believed as true, regardless of fact.
Submitter: Shani Naylor Votes: 1 & 4 Score: 4 + 0 = 4
Voted for by: Efrem Mallach, Guerri Stevens, Tim Bourne, Nancy Shepherdson

11. dependent on chance, luck, or an uncertain outcome.
Submitter: Chris Carson Votes: 0 & 0 Score: 2 + 0 = 2
Voted for by: Guerri Stevens, Judy Madnick

12. a place for developing ideas, strategies, or products; a think-tank
Submitter: Ryan McGill Votes: 0 & 0 Score: 1 + 0 = 1
Voted for by: Dan Widdis
13 No Def: Nancy Shepherdson Votes: 5 & 10 Score: 0 + 0 = 0
