Default [Dixonary] Round 3221 PHURBA voting time

Fellow players,

'Tis a new year! For the first time on this entire planet, we have - count them - not thirteen, not fourteen, not even fifteen, but a full SIXTEEN definitions of PHURBA! They have been lightly edited for format consistency, and are presented for your reading pleasure in ascending order by character count.

Please vote for two by Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list, which is about 48 hours from THIS VERY MOMENT. If you realize on seeing these definitions that you know what PHURBA means, let me know by private email to emallach (AT) verizon (DOT) net <mailto:emallach (AT) verizon (DOT) net>.

1. clubfoot.

2. a long loose outer garment worn by Muslims.

3. a white fur band on university doctoral robes.

4. a family of lichens favored as food by reindeer.

5. a trimming of fur or feathers around a woman's hat.

6. a three-sided knife associated with Buddhist rituals.

7. a bitter constituent of hops, having antibiotic properties.

8. a prune-based trifle dessert that was popular in England in the 1850s.

9. any of several small edible gourds of the pumpkin family found in East Africa.

10. a receptacle placed below a cut in the trunk of a rubber tree to collect latex.

11. an endangered breed of mountain lion, remaining mostly in the southwestern U.S.

12. similar to a sarong, the phurba is traditionally worn by Nepalese women in public baths.

13. a thick soup or stew; orig. Tatar, popular in Ukraine and including lamb or pork and mushrooms.

14. a synthetic talcum powder substitute, developed in 2017, used primarily in medical applications.

15. Anat. the point at which any one of the viscera has its junction with the vascular system; a notch or fissure where a vessel enters an organ.

16. a kind of glass drop with a long tail, made by dropping melted glass into water. It is remarkable for bursting into fragments when the surface is scratched or the tail broken.

Votes are due 9 am Thursday in North American Eastern Standard Time. I think that's also (you may want to check):

- 8 am Thursday in Chicago
- 6 am Thursday in California
- 3 am Friday in Wellington
- 4 pm Thursday in Cape Town
- 3 pm Thursday in Paris
- 2 pm Thursday in London

and, as you might expect, other times in other places.

New players are welcome to vote, as are old friends who didn't submit a definition. The only requirement is that you not know what PHURBA means. Vote one, vote all!

Efrem
