Default [Dixonary] Round 3208: DAWT | DAUT [Call for Votes]

Here are 11 definitions for dawt | daut. One of them comes from an actual dictionary article about the word. Please vote for two of them, by reply to this post, before the deadline, which isΒ* Thursday 11 November 13h00 CET. That is a little longer than normal, because Armistice Day is a public holiday in France, and in the morning my wind band will be playing at a church service followed by a procession
Β*and wreath-laying ceremony.
 1. Sc. Rotten.
 2. Yorks. A barn swallow.
 3. A medieval form of butter-churn.
 4. To pet, fondle, caress, make much of.Β*
 5. India. A sub-caste of the labouring class (Shudras) mainly involved in mining and metal-working.
 6. Scottish (chiefly Orkney and Shetland). A place where a boat can be hauled up and kept ashore; spec. a scooped-out trench at the edge of a beach surrounded by a shallow wall of stones. Also boat-daut.
 7. The forming of a semi-permanent joint between two ropes or two parts of the same rope by partly untwisting and then interweaving their strands.
 8. Arch. An enriched angle bead, often having a capital or base, or both.
 9. A small African egg-eating snake.
10. A martial head covering [OE].
11. Scot. Daughter.

I'm guessing Scots, though based on the accuracy of my recent guesses that's a good reason to believe it's not. Anyhow, of those, the long and the short of it: 1 and 6.

I'm not convinced that daut = daughter, so I'll vote 2 & 4 instead.
BTW Paul, what instrument do you play?
