Default [Dixonary] Vote in Round 2841: JOW

Folks,

A baker's dozen definitions of JOW (capitalization not significant) follow. One is its real meaning. The other regular dozen are your fellow players' efforts to deceive you. They have been edited for format consistency and are in ascending order by character count, which may not correspond to visual length. Please vote for two that you like for any reason (such as, but not necessarily, thinking that they might be correct) by Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list.

1. to talk incessantly.

2. to cause to acquiesce.

3. [Obs.] to break wind silently.

4. to speak ostentatiously; brag.

5. a derogatory term for wastefulness.

6. a path demarcated by piles of stones.

7. [Asia] a small, makeshift barge or raft.

8. [Scots.] the ringing, tolling or sound of a bell.

9. a small plate covering the armpit joint in a suit of armour.

10. the tree-kangaroo of North Queensland, _Dendrolagus lumholtzii_.

11. [Viet.] an obligation imposed on someone by a person of lower rank.

12. a flat-bottomed fishing boat used in the coastal waters and rivers of Vietnam.

13. [Cf. G. _jü_, interj., used in calling to a horse, used to turn a horse to the left.] To turn to the off side, or from the driver (i.e., in the United States, to the right side).

The deadline for votes is a bit under 48 hours from now: 9 pm on Wed., Oct. 11, in the eastern U.S. According to timeanddate.com <http://timeanddate.com/> that is also:

and other times in other places. You may want to check the conversion that applies to you, as different countries go on or off daylight saving (summer) time on different dates around this time of year, and this site - though good in general - is not immune to an occasional error.

New players are welcome to vote, even if you didn't submit a definition for this word - as are, of course, veteran players who happened not to. Full rules at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules <http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules> .

Have at it!
