[Dixonary] Round 2865 SIMORG results
Our round is over! Thank you all for understanding as I figured this out.
Seems like a standard round, near as I can tell, with a few bluffed definitions with closely clustered meanings, two of which were also similar to the dictionary definition. I'm sorry about the delays as I fumble through the rigmarole of posting and tabulating. As always, I welcome any corrections. Da Winnah is Nancy Shepherdson, with a sweet Natural 4. Runner-up is Dave Cunningham, the only one to see through the ruse, who scored a mutant 4. 1) a snub or rebuff. Voted for by no one. Provided by Christopher Carson, who did not vote and scores 0 points. 2) rigid or unyielding. Voted for by Shani Naylor. Provided by Guerri Stevens, who voted for 7 & 9 and scores 1 point. 3) a rather large newt of Papua New Guinea. Voted for by Tim Lodge. Provided by Mike Shefler, who voted for 11 & 12 and scores 1 point. 4) a scentless mayweed or scentless chamomile. Voted for by no one. Provided by John Barrs, who voted for 9 & 11 and scores 1 point. 5) a mythical beast, somewhat similar to a unicorn. Voted for by Nancy Goat & Efrem Mallach. Provided by Dave Cunningham, who voted for 6 & 10 (the dictionary definition) and scores 4 points. 6) a mythical beast with the head of a ram and body of a human. Voted for by Dave Cunningham, Keith Hale, Judy Madnick, and Efrem Mallach. Provided by Nancy Shepherdson, who did not vote and scores a Natural 4 points. 7) a ridge formed by wind erosion parallel to prevailing winds. Voted for by Keith Hale, Shani Naylor, and Guerri Stevens. Provided by Judy Madnick, who voted for 6 & 8 and scores 3 points. 8) a robotic monkey, built as a demonstration of Japanese technology. Voted for by Tim Bourne, Nancy Goat, and Judy Madnick. Provided by Tim Lodge, who voted for 3 & 12 and scores 3 points. 9) a membranous fold that supports an organ and keeps it in position. Voted for by John Barrs, Tim Bourne, and Guerri Stevens. Provided by Keith Hale, who voted for 6 & 7 and scores 3 points. 10) (also simurgh) a huge ancient bird of Persian legend, credited with possessing great wisdom. Voted for by Dave Cunningham. Provided by Merriam-Webster via https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/simorg, choice and spelling inspired by George A. Gaskell's Dictionary of All Scriptures and Myths, which was the closest dictionary when I had to find a word to re-deal, also available online at https://archive.org/details/dictionaryofalls00gask but whose definition was nearly incomprehensible. That makes this round a D1. 11) a widely used 1960s-era computer program that implemented Forrester's System Dynamics concepts (from SIMulation in ORGanizations). Voted for by John Barrs & Mike Shefler. Provided by Efram Mallach, who voted for 5 & 6 and scores 2 points. 12) (also symorg) An organisation set up to support a commercial or public service organisation, often by providing volunteer assistance. Voted for by Tim Lodge & Mike Shefler. Provided by Tim Bourne, who voted for 8 & 9 and scores 2 points. I'm going to skip a fancy table so this goes up sooner. I'm curious how people feel about the whole alternate-spelling business that was prevalent this round. Thanks for the fun.
