[Dixonary] Round 3042 SAROS Defs - Vote Now!
Here we have 13 imaginative defs of the word SAROS, only one of which comes
from my dictionary. Please vote for your two favoutites by public reply to this message before the deadline, which is: 09:00 UTC/GMT on Thursday 16th January 10:00 CET 4:00 AM EST 1:00 AM PST 20:00 AEDT in Melbourne 22:00 NZDT in New Zealand New players are welcome - just don't look up the word until after you've voted. -- Tim L *** SAROS*** 1. a horn shaped pastry. 2. a mischievous prank or antic. 3. the ancient Egyptian god of farming. 4. a medium-dry sherry similar to Amontillado. 5. a purple dye of unknown origin used in ancient Greece. 6. the 'pitcher' of a pitcher-plant [fr. generic name Sarracenia] 7. an area for ceremonial dances outside an ancient Greek temple. 8. a common mold, usually rust-colored, with microscopic airborne spores. 9. [Lit] A rhetorical shift or dramatic change in thought and/or emotion. 10. _Ancient History_ The Babylonian name for the number 3600, and hence for a period of 3600 years. 12. in Hellenism, a supplicatory method which aims to position the supplicant as submissive to and receptive toward the will of their deity, most commonly associated with Athena, Gaia, Hera, Hestia, and Phanes, as well as other deities associated with fertility, domesticity, guidance, and wisdom 13. a card game in which the players bet on the appearance of a particular rank when two cards are taken from the top of a dealer's pack. I only count 12 defs.Â* #11 seems to have gone missing.Â* And since I don’t see my def, I assume #11 must have been mine.
