I think J. Dixon was a woman. Although, I might be thinking that because I have a sister-in-law who is a J, and was married to a Jean, so that might be influencing my tendency to recall the name in a female connection.
The Dixonary J and I did the "Are you related," thing but found no connections.
Before marrying, I asked Jean if she was leery of becoming Jean Dixon (the astrologer was still popular back then). She said, "Nah." Her maiden name was McMahon and her dad was named Ed. She had seen all the funny reactions her whole life.
Her dad came to Atlanta once, on business, and Jean went down to meet him for lunch at his hotel. She went up to the desk and asked them to call Ed McMahon's room. After a pause the person asked for her name.
When she told them, "Jean Dixon," she said she thought for a few seconds they were going to have her escorted out.
