Dear people
Having received a def for the reprised rubble that was obviously the end of the defs!!! and so it turned out Many of you had difficulty with the names of theatres - had I realised that I might have chosen a different word but... it actually comes from Pallas Athena - Mythology says that a wooden statue of her was a protection to Troy and was stolen by Odysseus (and Diomedes) from Troy and later taken by Aeneas to the site of Rome where it became the thing that protected the citadel and was there for several centuries (at least until CE241 with legends that it was transferred by Constantine to Constantinople to legitimize his reign) Figuratively it became a symbol of protection in 16th Century English - often relics of saints, but more generally things like Drake's Drum and the Gibraltar ApesÂ* - hence #7 is the definition I used. Tim L and Nancy voted for that thus it received a D2. Tim LÂ* also provided the winning definition and Nancy becomes the real winner So take it away Tim *JohnnyB* 1Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*a temple to Pallas Athena, then (under the Romans) to Minerva Â*Â*Â* fromÂ* Efrem who voted for 2,11 Voted for by Paul KÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scoresÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*1 2Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*(also hippodrome) a Roman arena used for dramatic and other performances, such as the one restored at Caesarea Â*Â*Â* from Tim B who voted forÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* 8,11 Â*Â*Â* Â*Â*Â* Voted for by Paul, EfremÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores 2 3Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*Brit. a vaudeville theater Â*Â*Â* from Paul who voted for 1,2 Received no votes Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores 0 4Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*the calm weather that may precede a storm Â*Â*Â* from TonyÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* who didn’t vote Voted for by ShaniÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*1 5Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*an ornate sacramental table used in temples to hold offerings to a deity, often for the purpose of ritual blessingÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*from Ryan who didn’t vote Voted for by Tim L, AlanÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*2 6Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*the flattened tip of a hypha in various species of parasitic fungi from which a filament emerges that penetrates the host's tissuesÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*from Judy M who voted for 8,9 Voted for by MikeÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scoresÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*1 7 a thing on which the safety of a nation, institution, privilege, etc., is believed to depend; a source of protection, a safeguardÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*OED Online 2020 Voted for by Tim L,Nancy Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores a D2 8Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*an entranceway to a theatre from Dave who didn’t vote Voted for by Judy,Tim B, DanÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scoresÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*3 9Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* *Â*Â*Â*a commemorative arch, often stand-alone from Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Nancy who voted 7*, 11 Voted for by Debbie, Judy, Dan Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*5* 10Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Â*Â*Â*Â*the place from which a jury is drawn and in which trial is heldÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*from Debbie who voted 9,11 Voted for by Mike Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores 1 11Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Â*Â*Â*Â*in Roman times, a room for entertaining guests from Tim L who voted 5,7* Voted for by Debbie, Tim B, Shani, Nancy, EfremÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*7* 12Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Â*Â*Â*Â*a piece of land containing a sacred grove of treesÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*from Shani who voted 4,11 Voted for by AlanÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*scores 1 13Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â* Â*Â*Â*Â*a toga bordered in purple, worn by Roman senators during the time of the Caesars.
