[Dixonary] Round 3054, SERP ... let's vote!!
Hi all!
It's slightly delayed, due to personal reasons (mostly just me sleeping in way too long). But now, it is then finally here ... the voting!!! Below you'll find, arranged in what MS Excel considers to be alphabetical order, a collection of 16 completely fabricated defintions for SERP, plus one real definition carefully hidden in between the posers. Your task, should you choose to accept it (and frankly, why not ... well, except for John "DQ" Barrs, who is indeed excluded) is to cast your votes at 2 of them. Feel free to use whatever criteria you choose, but beware that "correctness" is the criterium that can earn you points.... Please vote by replying to this list (not to me personally!!), and please do so before the voting deadline, a little over 24 hours from now: March 1st, 13:00 CET.Â* This should correspond, if I am not mistaken, to March 1st, 12:00 (noon) UTC; 7:00 AM EST, 4:00 AM PST, and March 2nd 1:00 NZDT. 1. [Dressage] Brief release of the contact, wherein the rider in one clear motion extends the hands forward along the crest of the horse’s neck, then rides for several strides without contact. Its purpose is to demonstrate that even with loose reins, the horse maintains its carriage, balance, pace, and tempo. 2. [Geol] Excessively folded rock strata. 3. [Slang] A "sticky" item, especially counterfeit money. 4. A civilian, or a criminal associate, who informs or reports to the police. 5. A contrived punctuation mark consisting of an exclamation point atop a comma, used to show excitement without having to end a sentence. 6. A katabatic wind of coastal regions of the eastern Adriatic Sea. 7. A light orange color. 8. A man of fire or spirit; a fiery spark; a gay, showy man; a rake. 9. A sconce or flambeau; also, a heavy wall hanging. 10. A small European shrew. 11. A small town. 12. One of several cables used to manipulate wing warping in aircraft. 13. Search-engine results page: a web page that is generated by a search engine to display the results of a query or search. 14. The oil that is released at the second "crack" of coffee roasting (between 425 --435 degrees) that achieves a dark roast or "full city roast." 15. To beseech; to implore. 16. To position a sailing vessel relative to the wind so that the sails are luffing or aback. Cheers, Hugo -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Dixonary" group.
