[Dixonary] OT: Desperately Need Help
My touch pad died, which I may have mentioned. I now have a mouse, one
of the detached kind. I hate it and possibly I can alleviate the hate by turning it into a left-hand mouse, and perhaps changing some setting or other that makes it usable by seasoned citizens. So question 1: is there such a thing as an external touch pad? If so I think that might be better for me than the mouse. Question 2: any ideas on how to get up to speed mouse-wise and/or would it be OK to go out into the middle of the street and start screaming. Just ranting here. When life decides to kick you, it doesn't hold back. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Dixonary" group. Re: [Dixonary] OT: Desperately Need Help
Hi Guerri,
I personally dislike touch pads. No idea if they exist as external devices. For the mouse: Windows allows you to switch the functions of the left and right buttons. (Configuration screen - Devices - Mouse - Select primary button). I'm not lefthanded myself so I don;t know if that makes much of a difference but I wanted to point it out in case it does. Other than that, screaming in the middle of a street is only very rarely the worst possible option. Good luck! Re: [Dixonary] OT: Desperately Need Help
I am not left handed, either. The reason I'd use the pointing device
with my left hand would be because I'd be using my right hand to write any notes I might want to make. I admit that screaming in the street or elsewhere doesn't solve any problems, but it does blow off steam. A nice brisk walk does also and you get some exercise which has been sadly lacking for me today, thus far. I greatly prefer my wireless mouse to the touchpad. What don't you like
about the mouse? Judy On Sun, Oct 21, 2018, 6:58 AM Guerri Stevens <guerri (AT) guerristevens (DOT) com wrote: > My touch pad died, which I may have mentioned. Re: [Dixonary] OT: Desperately Need Help
It occupies space. If I use it with my right hand, it interferes with
writing. And if I put it on the left the computer has to be shifted right to make space for it. On 10/21/2018 7:43 AM, Judy M. wrote: > I greatly prefer my wireless mouse to the touchpad. Re: [Dixonary] OT: Desperately Need Help
Guerri,
I utterly dislike touch pads and prefer mice - so my touch pad is turned off else it interferes with my typing by inserting jumps and etc where I don't want them so I never know where my cursor is ...and the space thus freed up is where \i use my mouse Therefore for me no extra space required. Re: [Dixonary] OT: Desperately Need Help
I have developed a generic dislike to every thing related to computers.
This morning I booted up, then decided to do something else while the machine booted up (note: I admit that this violated my solemn vow not to multi-task). When I got back, there was a picture on my screen. I never knowingly set up a screen saver or did anything else I could think of that could have invoked one. I *think* I have gotten rid of it. I suspect that I am going to have to look into the settings. As far as I can tell, my only real option is to shut down when I am going to be away from the computer for more than a minute or two. The thing I liked about the touch pad is that it is built in. The mouse takes up space. Eventually I will get around to turning it into a left-hand mouse and get it off the right side of my computer. The right mouse button is on the right whichever hand I'm using: no problem. Best wishes, Tim Bourne. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Dixonary" group. Re: [Dixonary] OT: Desperately Need Help
Looks like the Microsoft Wedge is track-pad-ish:
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-3LR.../dp/B008OEHV6U There are other wireless touchpads. Even the Apple one I think is just a bluetooth pointer and could be used with a windows machine. You might consider a handheld trackball mouse: https://www.amazon.com/Ergonomic-Han.../dp/B071NT761Z Or this little widget that I don't even know how you'd use but looks fun: https://www.amazon.com/EIGIIS-Blueto.../dp/B075L6S2JD On Tue, Oct 23, 2018 at 8:23 AM Tim B <dixonary (AT) siam (DOT) co.uk> wrote: > > Eventually I will get around to turning it into a left-hand mouse and > get it off the right side of > > my computer. > > On my main computer I mostly use the mouse with my left hand, after an RSI > scare a few years ago, > but I've never bothered switching the buttons. Re: [Dixonary] OT: Desperately Need Help
Thanks for that information. I am not sure whether my mouse is a
hand-held trackball mouse or not. I am not sure what handheld means. it is certainly handheld. It is wireless. there is a roller thingy in the middle. Not sure what that is for. It is optical, whatever that means. But I think it means that it doesn't have to be physically attached to the machine. I have so far managed not to throw it. I have already told my husband that if/when the next time comes for me to get a new computer he should just shoot me. In the meantime, I am telling myself to shut up and make an effort to understand how things work on this one. I do not always take that advice. Another thing that is odd, but not related to the mouse. Apparently when Thunderbird detects the use of the word "attach" in a message, it assumes that I was intending to attach something, and "reminds" me that I have not done so. I won't say what I think about that. I'm guessing that there must have been requests for that feature. On 10/23/2018 5:37 PM, Daniel B. There are USB touch pads for Macs, I know. But I'm not sure about others.
Things tend to be more universal now then 20 years ago. On Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 3:58:40 AM UTC-7, Guerri wrote: > > My touch pad died, which I may have mentioned.
