Default [Dixonary] Vote in Round 2860, GLOZE

Folks,

Here are thirteen definitions of GLOZE concocted by your fellow players, plus one giving its real meaning, for a total of fourteen. They have been edited for format consistency and are in ascending order by character count, which may not correspond to visual length in your email display font. Please vote for two that you like for any reason (such as, but not necessarily, thinking that they might be correct) by public Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list.

1. an earthen dam.

2. [Scots] marshland.

3. [Scots] rime, frost.

4. to make excuses for.

5. a gas-permeable membrane.

6. satin-twilled woolen fabric.

7. a drowsy, stupid state of body or mind.

8. a bonding agent applied to a wall prior to applying stucco.

9. a person who has a vested interest in a piece of legislation.

10. a groove inside the end of a barrel or cask into which the head is set.

11. an alternative to glaze, a finish for pottery that cures at room temperature.

12. a former measurement unit of land area in Tsarist Russia, equivalent to 1.63 acres or 0.66 hectare.

13. the apex of the flower stalk, from which the organs of the flower grow, or into which they are inserted.

14. a gloss, that is, an explanation of, or comment upon, some uncommon word, phrase or idea; also to gloss in that sense; to provide a gloss.

The deadline for voting is just under 48 hours from now: 8 pm on Wed., Dec. 27, in continental Europe. According to timeanddate.com <http://timeanddate.com/>, that is:

and other times in other places. You may want to check the conversion that applies to you. That site, though good, doesn't claim to be perfect.

New players are welcome to vote, even if you didn't submit a definition for this word - as are, of course, veteran players who happened not to. Full rules at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules <http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules> .

Happy picking (and holidays),

Efrem
