[Dixonary] ROUND 2821 - GALLET - VOTE NOW!
Here are 12 definitions for the word GALLET...but only one is correct. Please send your votes (by responding to this email) for what you believe are the two definitions most likely to have come from a dictionary. The deadline for voting is Thursday, July 27, at 8 p.m. As usual, I will let you determine the time in your time zone. :-)
Any misspellings, weird spacing, etc., are my fault and not an indication of the accuracy of a particular definition. The formatting was fine in a test message sent to myself, so I hope you all receive it the way it was sent. Good luck! Judy 1. a chip of stone; to embed gallets in joints of fresh masonry. 2. _archaic_ A jeweled necklace, collar, or headband. 3. a heavy iron pointed at both ends, for pressing clothes. 4. a frame for moveable type (_galley_ q.v.). 5. a thickened horny or bony plate on a turtle's shell. 6. a broken promise. 7. a round-tipped shovel. 8. a u- or v-shaped groove cut into the face of a piece wood or metal into which another piece is to be fixed. 9. a monetary unit of Malawi, equal to one hundredth of a kwacha. 10. an early Greek warship, a galley from which several banks of oars were removed to make space to mount a second mast. 11. pebble-dash - small round stones thrown at wet concrete or mortar dressing of an external wall to provide a decorative waterproof finish [as opposed to roughcast where the stones are incorporated in the dressing]. 12. (Spinning) One of the combs of closely ranged steel pins which divide the ribbons of flax fiber or wool into fewer parallel filaments. [Prob. so called from F. aiguilles, needles.] -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Dixonary" group.
