[Dixonary] Round 3117: PICY [Results]
Round 3117: PICY [Results] Tony Abell’s “relief pattern in a brick wall” (9) achieved an early lead, with 3 votes from the first 3 ballots, and the final outcome was never much in doubt after that. It earned Tony 6 natural points and the next deal.
The real definition, from the OED, was the variant of pique (13), a bonus score in the venerable two-handed card game piquet. Picy is really a non-word, because it has its origin in a misprint for picq, a variant spelling of pique. The misprint appeared in an authoritative and influential text, Charles Cotton’s The Compleat Gamester (1674), and so the printer’s error became a thing. 1 A graphical-user-interface environment such as X or the Macintosh interface, esp. as described by a hacker who prefers command-line interfaces for their superior flexibility and extensibility. However, it is also used without negative connotations.
