Re: [Dixonary] round 3075 "Sporange"
Joseph,
Let me clarify a few things. First, you're not the dealer for Round 3075. It isn't time for Round 3075 yet. That round won't begin until Round 3074 is over. Second, the winner of a round deals the next round. Chris Carson won Round 3073, so he deals Round 3074. He has sent out the word; it's WITHY. If you want to submit a fake definition for WITHY, send it to clcarson (AT) live (DOT) com <mailto:clcarson (AT) live (DOT) com> before the deadline, which is 6 am on Wednesday, May 20th in U.S EDT and perhaps a different time wher you are. There will then be a day or two for voting, in which you're also encouraged to participate. Chris will tabulate and announce the results when the voting period is over. Whoever wins Round 3074, and that could be you, will deal Round 3075 - but not until then, and we won't know who it is until then. Third, it is impossible for someone who didn't participate in a round to become the next dealer, because the winner of a round is the player who scores the most points and you can't score points without playing. Since you didn't submit a fake definition or vote in Round 3073, you can't be the dealer now. If you want to deal, be sure to play. Sooner or later the dealing gods will smile on you and you'll get your chance. In any case, keep "sporange." You may have a chance to use it soon. Just not quite yet. That would be pretty crazy if it happened.

Re: [Dixonary] round 3075 "Sporange"
We don’t always make it obvious for newcomers but you can find the rules at http://www.dixonary.net/ (click on game rules and advice).
You can mostly ignore the “official” 1990 rules, and the “basic” rules are all you probably need to know until you get stuck with the deal. The “Real Rules” are a more detailed summary of how we really play, including non-rules like “don’t repeat words”.* Glad to have you playing.* Would you mind giving us a little introduction? Re: [Dixonary] round 3075 "Sporange"
Thank you, Joe! Welcome!
One question: Where are you located, specifically in what time zone? The reason for asking is that some dealers try to give deadlines in the time zones of all active players. There are many time zones, including a few where English is the native language, where we don't have anyone yet - unless you're in one of them. Re: [Dixonary] round 3075 "Sporange"
Thanks, Joe. No worries, then. That time zone probably has the largest concentration of players - including myself.
And not every dealer gives deadlines in multiple time zones, though many do.. It's optional. Some just say "8 pm Tuesday in Bora Bora, figure your own time out from that" and let us fend for ourselves. are you playing WITHY? (as you claimed this to be the word for this round) or was that a typo? Re: [Dixonary] round 3075 "Sporange"
Thanks for catching this, John!
It was a typo on my part. Chris dealt WITHE to replace WILLIWAG back in Round 2738, so WITHE was on my mind. I replaced the E with the Y from WIFTY and got WITHY, which as far as I know isn't a word. (I'm not goiing to look it up, for fear that my eye will land on WIFTY while I'm there.) Both Joseph and I had already submitted fake definitions of WIFTY by then - but I hope nobody else is confused! I agree. Our local Acme Market has “golden hours” from 7:00am to 9:00am. That’s pretty typical.

Re: [Dixonary] round 3075 "Sporange"
I haven't had to deal with that as I am officially 'do not leave your
house' for 14 weeks extended for another 6 weeks. Our wonderful system made a one-hour oldie slot early morning Friday on the first week of lockdown. I calculated from demographics that meant that as* 42% of the customers fulfilled the designation 'oldie' and that therefore to give them one-hour a week was a recipe for no social distancing and suggested that my wife didn't go for us. However she did go. My guesses were proved accurate there were hundreds of people mikking around to try and get in - eventually the store controllers gave up and let everybody in while there was still something on the shelves. Actually my demographics was crude in that I should have eliminated children under 16 from the mix (oldies up to 73%) and then divided by 2 for households ect bu even so it was arrant and senseless stupidity. It got better with experience and they added in the next hour for medics, careworkers, etc Talking of shelves being empty then there are still some products unavailable - flour of any kind is rare. (Problem is that you can probably get 50lb bags because the mills are still working but the factories* packing into normal size bags were closed down) as a senior person in the care industry said "the government were not following any plan but reacting day by day to what seemed to be the greatest pressure" *John* On 19/05/2020 16:38, Debbie wrote: > I want someone to 'plain why the old people have to up and out at the > crack of dawn to get their groceries.
