Default [Dixonary] Round 3224 ENS results

Ens is def. 7: a philosophical term meaning "an entity or being; an existing thing, as opposed to a quality or attribute." Many people saw a similarity with John Barrs's def. 9, another philosophical term meaning "the essential essence of a thing. Similar to the id in a conscious being, this applies to things that cannot have a personality." The two are from the same domain and contain similar words, but careful reading shows that they could not possibly have been combined. The true definition refers to a thing; John's, to a characteristic of a thing. Those who voted the 7-9 combo on the grounds that they could have been combined should give themselves ten lashes with a wet noodle for superficial reading and resolve to read more carefully in the future.

That said, John's essential essence got 8 votes - the same as the real definition - and earned him the next deal. Mike Shefler, whose def. 4 (a feeling of lightheartedness or frivolity) received 4 votes and who also voted for #7, had 6 points to place him in the coveted runner-up spot. Six of the ten submitted definitions received no votes at all, which may be a high though it isn't one I particularly covet.
