Default [Dixonary] Vote in Round 2837: PINTA

Folks,

Twelve definitions of PINTA follow. One is its real meaning. The others are your fellow players' efforts to deceive you. They have been edited for format consistency and are in order by character count, which may not correspond to visual length. Please vote for two that you like for any reason (such as, but not necessarily, thinking that they might be correct) by Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list.

1. a grey wig.

2. fawning; obsequious.

3. a crude dye made of berry juice and ash.

4. [Port.] painted, especially of livestock.

5. an athletic, fast-paced dance, performed by 3 people.

6. a large curved brick or tile used to support a melting pot.

7. painting by dots; an early name for Pointilism (which see).

8. a fine wool, similar to angora; or, the hybrid sheep that bears it.

9. a brightly-colored flycatcher of Central America, _Pyrocephalus rubinus_..

10. [Philippine Eng.] grandmother. Also used as a respectful title or form of address for an elderly woman.

11. a long wide scarf often worn draped over the head or across the shoulders, chiefly by women in South Asia.

12. a contagious skin disease prevalent in tropical America, caused by a spirochete (Treponema carateum) and marked by extreme thickening and spotty discoloration of the skin.

The deadline for votes is about 48 hours from now: 9 pm on Wed., Sept. 27, in the eastern U.S. According to timeanddate.com that is also, on the same date:

8 pm U.S. CDT
6 pm U.S. PDT

and on Thursday, Sept. 28:

2 am in the U.K.
3 am in continental Europe
11 am in Melbourne
2 pm in Wellington, which has moved to summer time

New players are welcome to vote, even if you didn't submit a definition for this word - as are, of course, veteran players who happened not to. Full rules at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules <http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules> .

Have at it!

Efrem
