Default [Dixonary] Round 3204: FARL [Results]

The dictionary definition

flour or oatmeal; now applied to a cake of similar kind and size,
whether quadrant-shaped or not [contraction for fardel, representing Old
English fēorða dǣl‘fourth part’].

I chose it because of the way the author let the etymology leak into the
definition, an elaborate example of the form sense A, hence sense B,
common in Johnson 1755, but close to absent in the OED from the letter M
onwards. (There is a good reason for that: you may not say hence, even
though it might seem obvious, unless you have a citation that confirms
it: instead you leave the reader to draw the same obvious but
unsupported conclusion.) Though that offended my no doubt purist taste,
it did not bother the sevenplayers who voted for it.

The winner of the round was Mike Shefler, whose def

earned 3 votes (plus 2 for guessing correctly), tying with Tim Lodge’s
similarly unnatural score of 5 for the def

13. To turn on the spot; to spin round.

But Mike was 2 points ahead in the rolling scores and so Tim gets off
the hook.

This was also a round where every single player scored at least one point.
