New today (October 6): when I start Thunderbird I have something called
the today pane. I probably did something to make this happen. I want it
to go away. I managed to do that, but I suspect it will come back.

Are there settings or options that I can access? I realize that I am
probably stuck with Paragraph, Courier, and the other stuff ending with
the smiley face.

Obviously I am not adjusting well to the new Tbird. I realize it will
take time, but if each day some new unwanted feature appears I will
never finish adapting.
