Default [Dixonary] Round 3210 vote for WITCHES' KNICKERS

Fellow players,

Thirteen definitions of WITCHES' KNICKERS follow. They have been edited for format consistency and U.S. spelling, and are in ascending order by character count. That might not correspond to visual length in your email display font.

Please vote for two by Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list (about 46 1/2 hours from now). If you realize on seeing this list that you know what WITCHES' KNICKERS means, let me know by private email to emallach (AT) verizon (DOT) net <mailto:emallach (AT) verizon (DOT) net>.

1. six consecutive winning games.

2. askew, crooked, or out of sorts.

3. salsify (Tragopogon porrifolius).

4. [Refining, obs.] the almond furnace.

5. [Yorks. slang] a violent storm; a squall.

6. clocks (Cockney rhyming slang, via tickers).

7. a deliquescent fungus; coprinopsis, also called ink cap.

8. pouch-like cloud structures, sometimes very ominous in appearance.

9. Slavic fast dance in which dancer squats and kicks out legs alternately.

10. fermented heads of the king salmon, eaten as a delicacy in Alaska and northern Canada.

11. curtains used in theaters to conceal rigging, lighting equipment, etc from the audience; also known as masking curtains.

12. [Folk] the burr of the burdock plant, which inspired the creation of Velcro®, and was said to fasten the aforementioned knickers.

13. Plastic bags caught in the branches of trees; by extension, any waste paper and other debris blown by the wind and caught, e.g., on fences or hedges.

Votes are due 9 am Sunday in North American Eastern Standard Time. I think that's also (you may want to check):

- 8 am Sunday in Chicago
- 6 am Sunday in California
- 3 am Monday in Wellington
- 4 pm Sunday in Cape Town
- 3 pm Sunday in Paris
- 2 pm Sunday in London

and, as one might expect, other times in other places.

New players are welcome to vote, as are old friends who didn't submit a definition. The only requirement is that you not know what WITCHES' KNICKERS means.
