Re: [Dixonary] Round 3145 word: LEISTER

Am I alone i not having received this message? This has happened to be
several times in the last few rounds. It seems to be only the original word
announcement that gets lost; on this occasion, for example, I have received
the comments from Alan and Judy. Any ideas why this might be?

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

Re: [Dixonary] Round 3145 word: LEISTER

I received it. But then, I never receive messages from Hugo, whether sent to me directly or through the forum. Strange are the ways of the internet, for they are subtle and quick to confuse.

Re: [Dixonary] Round 3145 word: LEISTER

I suspect that your ISP's spam checker has decided that Hugo's email domain
is a source of spam and has blocked his mail. These days that only lasts a
day or so. But some ISPs still set up a permanent ban and expect that the
blocked ISP will apply to be whitelisted. At one stage CompuServe banned my
mail. The link I got on the bounce message told me to get my ISP, which was
KPN, the former PTT, to follow CompuServe's unblocking procedure, without
which CompuServe would continue to block mail from *all of KPN's 14 million
Dutch customers*. But large ISPs naturally won't do that. They reckon that
the action they themselves take against spam sent through their servers is
adequate, and don't consider themselves beholden to what can often be an
SME throwing its weight around. Such blocks are an outdated response but
they still happen.

Re: [Dixonary] Round 3145 word: LEISTER

Paul, what do you mean by SME in this instance? I find several of the
potential definitions make sense in this context.

Thanks,
Ryan

Well then. Glad I asked, as that wasn't even one of the ones I thought
might be a frontrunner.
