[Dixonary] Round 3081 LAIRWITE Results

The real meaning of LAIRWITE is ' a fine for fornication or adultery, esp.
with a bondwoman.' which three clever players guessed. Paul Keating
submitted a def so close to the real one that I had to combine them, giving
him 3 points. Mike Shefler is our new dealer, with 5 points, made up of 3
votes for his northern shrike plus 2 points for guessing the real def.
Chris Carson and Alan Mallach were the real winners in second place with 4
points each - 2 of Alan's were gained because he voted for the real def.
Everyone else scored at least one point.

Over to you, Mike.

Tim – I don’t see how I get four points – I only see one, seeing as I (disappointingly) got only one vote for my def and I didn’t vote for the ‘fine for fornication’. Perhaps you’re confusing me with someone else of the same name?

Best,

Alan

He isn't confusing you with me, if I'm the "someone else of the same name" you mean. My score is correct: one vote, from Nancy S.; both guesses wrong; one point.

I'm not quite sure whar you're talking about. In the verson of the results
I can see, you've only scored one point, not four:

12. (var. Lairwight or Laerwight) a small mischievous and sometimes
malevolent creature in Celtic mythology.
Submitter: Alan Mallach Votes: 5 & 11 Score: 1 + 0 + 0 = *1 *
Voted for by: Shani Naylor

Def Vote 1 Vote 2 Tot Votes Guess DP

Alan Mallach 12 5 11 1

RE: [Dixonary] Round 3081 LAIRWITE Results

Tim – It’s in your opening narrative – at the end of the paragraph that begins “the real meaning of LAIRWITE, etc.” But you definitely had it right in the summary table.

Best,

Alan

The real meaning of LAIRWITE is ' a fine for fornication or adultery, esp. with a bondwoman.' which three clever players guessed. Paul Keating submitted a def so close to the real one that I had to combine them, giving him 3 points. Mike Shefler is our new dealer, with 5 points, made up of 3 votes for his northern shrike plus 2 points for guessing the real def. Chris Carson and Alan Mallach were the real winners in second place with 4 points each - 2 of Alan's were gained because he voted for the real def. Everyone else scored at least one point.

Over to you, Mike.

Ah, I've got it now. As Johnny says, it should have been his name there.
It was entirely my mistake. Sorry!
