[Dixonary] OT: Malware Bytes

I have the Malware Bytes software. For a long time I'd run it, and
everything seemed fine. I admit that I didn't keep careful notes on what
happened recently, but apparently it decided that I should try out a
premium version. It either didn't give me a chance to opt out or I
somehow didn't do it or did it wrong.

I don't want a premium version, trial or otherwise. As far as I can tell
Malware Bytes has turned into an obnoxious pushy piece of software. I
call it "bullying" software. I cannot even figure out how to get in
touch with the authors.

Is there any way I can get to the current version of the basic software?
Failing that, is there any way I can preventing it from starting when I
boot up?

To tell the truth I am pretty tired of all this stuff. We are now,
apparently, slaves to software that scans for viruses and all kinds of
other stuff. I am a seasoned citizen. I am a simple person and I want
simple software that is simply fine.

I think I installed version 3.1.2.1733 today. At least that is what is
in my computer notes. I am not sure, but it appears that today's
computers and today's software are in charge, and if they are in a good
mood, they may work for you. I can't easily find out where the software
is located. It starts up when I boot up and I can't figure out how to
stop that from happening. I actually used Windows help to read up on how
to make programs start out when I boot up, but apparently Malware Bytes
doesn't abide by the usual rules for starting up on boot.

Can anyone shed any light on this. Does anyone know a good shrink that
specializes in computer bullying?

I don't have Malware Bytes but I do have the same problem with AVG. When
dl'ing my email, I can't leave it unattended because it stops when it
finds a virus, and I have to manually click OK to continue. In addition,
with the latest version, whenever I run a program or load a document for
the first time, it has to waste 15-30 seconds scanning the file for
viruses/malware. Very annoying!

There used to be a Windows forum. If I can remember how to access it,
perhaps I'll post a message there.

[Dixonary] OT: Malware Bytes

I keep getting notices from the Malware Bytes product. Each time, there
is an option to "unsubscribe". I keep unsubscribing, and for awhile I
get nothing, but evidently I get re-subscribed. It is possible that the
Malware Bytes updates itself without asking permission and in the
process, it changes some setting or other. Does anyone know how I can
get this behavior to stop? I suppose the smart thing would be to bring
it up and see if there is a way to uninstall.

Come to think of it, Thunderbird updates itself without asking, which
means when I am through with this message I am going to have to deal
with that, too.

I somehow managed to delete this software. However, I was able to
recover it, or at least I think so.

I cannot make it run, though. It is on my desktop. I suspect it is
simply a folder, and there is nothing there to *be* run.

If it's on your desktop, and it looks like a folder, you should be able to double-click it to see what's inside. What happens when you do that?

Well, it's gone now. But of course I really want it there so I can run
it easily. Something to be addressed later.

I think that every once in awhile the manager of the universe, however
you want to refer to that entity, does something to remind us that we
are not in control. And I think that it is my turn to be reminded.
