[Dixonary] ROUND 2995 - ABBOZZO - VOTE NOW!

Here are (lucky!) 13 definitions for the word ABBOZZO...but only one is correct. Please send your votes (by responding to the group) for what you believe are two definitions most likely to have come from a dictionary. The deadline for voting is Thursday, July 4th, at 8 p.m.. As usual, I will let you determine the time in your time zone. I hope that the U.S. holiday doesn't create any problems.

Any misspellings, weird spacing, etc., are my fault and not an indication of the accuracy of a particular definition.

Good luck!

1. a circus clown.
2. a cocktail made with a solid amount of absinthe and a champagne floater.
3. a porous volcanic rock much used in Southern Italy as a building foundation.
4. a preliminary sketch.
5. a rubber overshoe. [Local, U. S.]
6. a shared patio or courtyard between two buildings.
7. a small lump; commonly used for a chalky deposit on the wrist or ankle also called a "bible bump."
8. an espresso-based beverage with a small scoop of ice cream (trad. vanilla), topped with whipped cream.
9. an obscure 19th-century universal language, crafted in music.
10. in a monastery, a stronger brew reserved to the Abbot and other senior members of the Chapter.
11. syncopated
12. the name of a typeface designed by Arturo Abbozzo in 1631.
13. [It.] a hug or caress.

Judy,

It's still, as I write this, 10+ hours until the deadline you gave below. I submitted a definition and had planned to vote later today. Would I have voted for #4? Hard to say, but I hadn't eliminated it from contention (as I had several of the others).

Re: [Dixonary] ROUND 2995 - ABBOZZO - VOTE NOW!

(I've replied to all due to my question below.)

Oh, darn. I was so anxious to get this round over with that when I saw "8:00" on my calendar, I guess I wanted it to be a.m., not p.m.

Question: In a case like this, if I want to award dealer point(s), is it appropriate to award 1 (or 2?) to anyone who submitted a definition but didn't vote? I knew this round went too smoothly.

Judy
