Votes were widely spread this round, with 11 different definitions receiving at least one nod. Only two definitions received more than two votes -- Chris Carson authored #3 and collected topped the list of player submissions with 3 votes.Â*Â* Seven votes, however, went to #4, the true def, despite it being described variously as "peculiar" and "absurd".



Despite its rarity, the etymology of da woid is rather straightforward with Latin roots derived from earlier Greek: a- (not) + keirein (cut short) + koma (hair). Â*It was apparently rather common for Roman and Greek youths to wear their hair long until they came of age.
