[Dixonary] OT: Newspaper Access

We subscribe to a newspaper published in our area. For awhile we had the
real paper delivered (remember those days?). We live in a rural area,
and when it became obvious that delivery would be inconsistent, and the
only thing the newspaper would do is issue a credit for the missed
delivery, we decided to switch to digital delivery. Generally that works
well. But I am finding that sometimes, like today, it doesn't work for
me. I am using the Firefox Browser, version 52.2.1. I'm running Vista. I
think that this is the last version that Firefox will produce for Vista.
So that is eventually going to be a generic problem, not just affecting
the newspaper.

My husband uses the Chrome browser and has no problem with the newspaper.

Do any of you use Chrome or some other browser? I'm just sort of getting
a second opinion before I switch. I hate switching browsers, Email
software or any other software. HATE. The level of hatred is right up
there with my attitude toward having work done on my eyes.

Just a thought, and probably not relevant. It so happened that when I
tried to open your message on the Group website using Firefox just now, it
wouldn't load. I closed and reopened Firefox, and the page loaded
correctly. You might try that. Restarting your PC might be worth a try as
well.

Oh, BTW, I've got Firefox 54.0.1, which it tells me is up-to-date.

RE: [Dixonary] OT: Newspaper Access

There’s one advantage to switching browsers, though. You can do it selectively and gradually. Start by installing Chrome and just using it for the newspaper. I don’t know why it would make a difference unless the paper’s site does something odd. I get the local paper electronically here and have never had any particular issue with it other than an occasional reluctance to download it for offline access. I use <gasp> Internet Explorer 11 and I’ve been using Edge more and more since it has some advantages. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support add-ins yet which might account for why it’s so fast. Ha. So far I’ve had pretty fair luck with Windows 10 and IE 11 and Edge. I had to replace my old computer a few months ago and the new one came with Win10 without an option to retrograde so I bit the bullet and haven’t been sorry yet. It was a hassle to get all of my software installed, activation codes, and keys but that was more an issue of a new computer rather than the OS..

Re: [Dixonary] OT: Newspaper Access

Actually I should probably "restart" my computer by getting a new one.
In fact, I have a new one, but have never set it up.

Thanks for the tip on restarting Firefox. I'll give it a try next time I
have trouble.
